Mauritius 1912 cent

from the Stack's Bowers June 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72183

This specimen was lot 72183 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $120. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MAURITIUS. Cent, 1912. London Mint. PCGS MS-63 Red Brown Gold Shield. A boldly struck coin with original surfaces and abundant mint red remaining in the fields." This type was struck 1911-12, 1917, 1920-24 in modest numbers. It accompanied a bronze five cents and two cents. Silver quarter, half and one rupees were struck for George V but not until 1934.
