This specimen was lot 72182 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "MAURITIUS. Cent, 1911. London Mint. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown Gold Shield. Quite brilliant and robust, this charming near-Gem possesses a good deal of original minty red allure radiating throughout." This type was struck 1911-12, 1917, 1920-24 in modest numbers. It accompanied a bronze five cents and two cents. Silver quarter, half and one rupees were struck for George V but not until 1934.
