Künker sale 335, lot 5137

This specimen was lot 5137 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$3,926 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN, MANTUA, Carlo I. 1627-1637. 1/2 Scudo o. J. (1629), geprägt während der Belagerung im Mantuanischen Erbfolgekrieg, 1629-1630. St. Andreas mit Kreuz steht v. v. im Abschnitt · MANTVÆ ·//Schmelztiegel mit Silberzainen in loderndem Feuer. Engel/Fabre/Perret/Wattier 4.12.13.3. Von großer Seltenheit. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, sehr schön. Aus der Sammlung Eberhard Link. Exemplar der Auktion Aretusa 4, Lugano 1996, Nr. 1155. (Italy, duchy of Mantua, Charles I, 1627-37, undated half scudo, struck during the siege of the War of the Mantuan Succession, 1629-30. Obverse: St. Andrew with his cross; reverse: crowned arms in flames. Very rare, edge cracks, very fine.)"

This siege coin accompanied several scudi (Dav-3956 and Dav-3957).
