Mansfeld-Eigentliche-Hinterort 1610-GM thaler Dav-7002
This specimen was lot 950 in Jean Elsen sale 165 (Brussels, June 2026), where it sold for €600 (about US$826 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, MANSFELD, Friedrich Christoph (1610-1631), AR Taler, 1610 GM, Eisleben. D/ Écu écartelé sous un heaume. R/ Saint Georges à cheval à d., terrassant le dragon. Légère double frappe au revers. Superbe/Très Beau. (Germany, county of Mansfeld, Frederick Christopher, 1610-31, silver thaler of 1610, Eisleben mint. Obverse: quartered arms under a helmet; reverse: St. George, mounted, spears the dragon. Slightly double struck on the reverse, Extremely Fine/Very Fine.)"
Mansfeld-Eigentliche-Hinterort was a county of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. Duke David ruled 1592-1628 and Frederick Christopher 1609-31; the line went extinct in 1666. This type was struck 1610-21 and is fairly common.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver, this specimen 29,11 g.
