Mansfeld H3076-31511r.jpg
Künker Auction 425, lot 1542

The first specimen was lot 31511 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Mansfeld-Artern. Volrat VI, Wolfgang III, & Johann Georg II gold Goldgulden 1626-AK AU55 NGC. A reasonably well preserved example of this type which often comes not only weakly struck but often quite worn, with hints of rose gold tone over amber luster. From the Allen Moretti Swiss Collection." Friedberg lists this type for 1620-21 and 1626 and notes it as the most available gold coin from this state during the seventeenth century. Mansfeld-Artern was a county of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. There were several co-rulers; the line went extinct in 1780. The second specimen was lot 1542 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €3,200 (about US$4,531 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · MANSFELD-ARTERN, GRAFSCHAFT Volrat VI., Wolfgang III. und Johann Georg II., 1620-1627. Goldgulden 1626, Eisleben. GOLD. RR Fast vorzüglich.
