This specimen was lot 4207 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $253. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - Mansfeld. Taler, 1624-HI. Volrat VI. St. George. Flat area at top. ANACS graded VF-20." This type was struck 1620-27 in Mansfeld-Artern and is among the more common thalers of the period. Mansfeld-Artern was a county of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. There were several co-rulers; the line went extinct in 1780.
