The first specimen was lot 33430 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "British Colony. Elizabeth II 50 Cents 1961 MS64 NGC. A seldom seen error variety featuring a reeded edge instead of the normal security edge. Surfaces exhibit a lustrous light nickel color. From the Engelen Collection of World Coinage." This type was struck 1951-64 for Malaya and British Borneo, a temporary federation of the British colonies in southeast Asia. Its pieces, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, are now independent and the coinage is obsolete. The second specimen was lot 46968 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[2] noted, "MALAYA AND BRITISH BORNEO. Mint Error -- Broadstruck -- 50 Cents, 1961. London Mint. Elizabeth II. NGC MS-62."

Recorded mintage: 17,000,000 (both varieties).

Specification: 9.38 g, copper-nickel, 27 mm diameter.
