Majorca (1412-16) real
This specimen was lot 74610 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. Real, ND (1412-16). Mallorca Mint. Ferdinand I. PCGS AU-53. This visually impressive and most pleasing Real delivers to the eyes a rich brilliance, balanced by soft toning throughout. Well struck and entirely pleasing to behold." This specimen was offered again as lot 49375 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $432. Fernando I (1380–1416) was king of Aragon, Valencia, Majorca, Sardinia and (nominal) Corsica and king of Sicily, duke (nominal) of Athens and Neopatria, and count of Barcelona, Roussillon and Cerdanya (1412–1416). He was also regent of Castile (1406–1416). He issued florins in gold, reales and half reales in silver, and diners in billon. The reales come with four bulls on the reverse (shown here) or two bulls and two lions. Both are scarce to rare.
