Mainz 1505 goldgulden Fr-1631
This specimen was lot 1971 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$3,062 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"MAINZ, ERZBISTUM, Jakob von Liebenstein, 1504-1508. Goldgulden 1505, Mainz. Vierfeldiges Wappen, umgeben von drei kleineren Wappen, umher Dreipaß//Christus thront v. v. mit segnender Rechten und Buch, im Vordergrund Wappenschild mit dem Mainzer Rad. GOLD. RR Kl. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, archbishopric of Mainz, Jacob of Liechtenstein, 1504-08, goldgulden of 1505, Mainz mint. Obverse: quartered arms with three small shields around in a trilobe; reverse: Christ enthroned with Gospels, city arms below. Rare, minor rim nick, very fine to extremely fine.)"
The archbishop issued this type 1504-08. It is the only gold coin of this prelate.
