Magdeburg 1626-PS thaler Dav-5516
This specimen was lot 316 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 825 CHF (about US$1,257 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Magdeburg, Stadt, Taler (24 Groschen) 1626, Magdeburg. Mit dem Titel Ferdinands II. Münzmeister Peter Schrader. Gutes sehr schön. Feine Patina. (Germany, city of Magdeburg, thaler or 24 groschen of 1626, Magdeburg mint, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Good Very Fine, Nicely toned.)"
This type was struck 1623-30. The initials "PS" are by the left eagle's beak. The city of Magdeburg was sacked and razed in 1631 by imperial troops during the Thirty Years War.
