Magdeburg 1624-PS thaler Dav-5516
This specimen was lot 315 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$1,219 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Magdeburg, Stadt, Taler (24 Groschen) 1624, Magdeburg. Mit dem Titel Ferdinands II. Münzmeister Peter Schrader. Gutes sehr schön. (Germany, city of Magdeburg, thaler or 24 groschen of 1624, Magdeburg mint, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Good Very Fine.)"
This type was struck 1623-30 along with archepiscopal issues KM 94/Dav-5486, KM 95/Dav-5487, KM 96/Dav-5488 and KM 97/Dav-5490. The initials "PS" are by the left eagle's beak. The city of Magdeburg was sacked and razed in 1631 by imperial troops during the Thirty Years War.
