This specimen was lot 41104 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Madras Presidency. 1/4 Mohur, ND (1819). NGC AU-58. A premium example of this SCARCE issue, possessing strong detail over the medium golden honey surfaces with virtually no marks that capture the eye's attention." This type was struck in Madras for the British East India Company. Varieties exist. A mohur was equal in weight to the rupee but in gold.
