This issue was minted in Singapore for the Portuguese colony of Macao in 1982-85. The coin is common altho the precious metal versions sold to collectors are scarce. It is the last of the denomination. A high stars variety (KM 23.2) exists, which was struck at the Popjoy mint. Unlike the other colonies of Portugal, there was never any agitation for independence but the colony was returned to China in 1999.

Recorded mintage: 6,427,000 plus a few in silver, gold and platinum.

Specification: 9 g, copper-nickel, 26 mm diameter.
