Sincona Auction 103, lot 731

This specimen was lot 731 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$915 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LUXEMBURG Charlotte, 1919-1964. 20 Francs 1963, Brüssel. Ohne Wertangabe. Auf die 1000-Jahrfeier der Stadt Luxemburg. (grand duchy of Luxembourg, Charlotte, 1919-64, twenty francs of 1963, Brussels mint, without value, for the millennium of the city of Luxembourg. NGC MS66.)"

This issue is on the border between coin and medal as it lacks a mark of value, yet the mintage is too large for a mere essai or pattern. The SCWC has consigned this to the Unusual World Coins, considering it to be medallic in nature. Off-metal strikes exist in copper and copper-nickel.

Recorded mintage: 25,263.

Specification: 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, 20.9 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: Schl. 2, KM XM2b.
