Künker sale 386, lot 5320

This specimen was lot 5320 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €400 (about US$517 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LÜNEBURG, STADT, 2/3 Taler 1702. Hübsche Patina, min. Schrötlingsfehler, fast vorzüglich. Diese Münze gehört zur letzten Silberemission der Stadt Lüneburg. (city of Luneburg, two-thirds thaler of 1702. Handsome patina, minor planchet defects, about extremely fine.)"

Altho the city of Luneburg was within the electorate of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, it maintained sufficient independence to issue this gulden in 1702, among its last issues.
