Künker sale 335, lot 4111

This thaler struck 1581-93 was not issued by the duke of Brunswick-Luneburg but by the city in its own name. This specimen was lot 4111 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,832 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LÜNEBURG, STADT. Reichstaler (32 Schilling) 1589, mit Titel Rudolfs II. Von größter Seltenheit. Fast sehr schön. Exemplar der Slg. Hermann Vogel, Teil 4, Auktion L. + L. Hamburger 75, Frankfurt/Main 1925, Nr. 2594. (Germany, city of Luneburg, thaler of 1589, in the name of Rudolf II. Very rare, about very fine.)"

Double thalers (Dav-9423) also exist.
