This specimen was lot 21682 in Heritage sale 3004 (New York, January 2009), where it sold for $1,495. The catalog description[1] noted, "Livorno. Cosimo III Medici Tollero 1699, AU58 NGC. Harbor scene. Well struck with attractive gray toning over iridescent surfaces. It will be difficult to find a finer example of this type." This type was struck by the Medici Grand Duke of Tuscany for Livorno 1683-1700. The Italian word tollero may be translated into the German word thaler or the English word dollar.
