Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 43235
SB126-43235r.jpg

This specimen was lot 43235 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $19,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Impressive Reeded Edge Choice Mint Pattern, LITHUANIA. Silver 2 Litai Pattern, 1938. PCGS SPECIMEN-63. Plain Edge. An EXCEEDINGLY RARE Pattern type which features the columns of Gediminas on the reverse instead of the national arms that are often encountered on other Patterns of this year. This example displays bold strike quality, and just a hint of warming tone at the rims on the obverse and a bit more expansively on the reverse. An inferior MS-61 example (HA Sale 3125, Lot #35477) realized $25,200 inclusive of the buyer's premium in August of 2025, making this superior example likely to dazzle with the heights it realizes it auction. From the Collection of Kazmier Wysocki, former mayor of Hackensack, New Jersey." Numerous patterns exist for this denomination (KM Pn7, Pn8, Pn9, Pn10, Pn11, Pn12) but ultimately none were adopted. Antanas Smetona (1874-1944) was president and dictator of Lithuania 1926-40. He fled Lithuania when the Soviets invaded and died in a house fire in Cleveland in January 1944.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.500 fine silver, 23 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-Pn11.
