This specimen was lot 2832 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "LIPPE-DETMOLD: Simon August, 1734-1782, AR 1/3 thaler, Detmold, 1772, a lovely example, PCGS graded MS63." This is a one year type. It was the first half gulden issued since 1719 and the last for the state. Lippe-Detmold's army allegedly comprised the count, one colonel and one private. The state's weakness--nobody else wanted it--probably enabled its survival until 1918.The reverse legend announces, "40·ST(ucke) EINE FEINE MARCK", i.e., forty pieces to the mark.
