Liege 1752 plaquette
This specimen was lot 1233 in Jean Elsen sale 156 (Brussels, September 2023), where it sold for €70 (about US$90 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"LIEGE, Principauté, Jean Théodore de Bavière (1744-1763), AR plaquette, 1752, Liège. D/ Ecu couronné de l'évêque, sur une crosse et une épée en sautoir. Avec étoile en fin de légende. R/ Ecu ovale de la principauté dans un cartouche orné. Avec PR dans la légende. Belle patine. Superbe. Provient de la collection A. Symkens, 25 novembre 1991. (principality of Liège, John Theodore of Bavaria, 1744-63, silver plaquette of 1752, Liège mint. Obverse: crowned arms of the bishop over a cross and a sword, a star at the end of the legend; reverse: oval arms of the principality in an ornate cartouche with "PR" in the legend. Nice patina, Extremely Fine.)"
John Theodore was the last Bavarian to reign as prince-bishop of Liège altho he was never archbishop of Cologne as his predecessors were. We are not sure of the face value of this coin but it was likely four sols. It was struck 1751-52 and has a moderate catalog value.
