Jean Elsen sale 158, lot 1129

This specimen was lot 1129 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$2,861 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"LIEGE, Principauté, Jean de Hornes (1485-1505), billon patard, 1494, Liège. Différent: croisette. D/ Ecu de Hornes entouré de flammèches. R/ SI DEV'-NOB' C'- 9S CON- NOS 94 Croix longue et ornée, cantonnée de deux lions et de deux cors. Très rare. Double frappe au revers. presque Très Beau. Provient de la collection Bovier et de la collection A. Symkens, Liège, 25 novembre 1991. (prince-bishopric of Liège, John of Hoorn, 1485-1505, billon patard of 1494, Liège mint, crosslet privy mark. Obverse: arms of Hoorn surrounded by flames; reverse: ornate long cross cantonned with two lions and two horns. about Very Fine.)"

The patard was known elsewhere in the Netherlands as a stuiver or an aidant.
