Libya 1965 millieme
This specimen was lot 72431 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "LIBYA. Millieme, 1965. PCGS SPECIMEN-65 Gold Shield. Dazzling and radiant, this brilliant Gem yields intense luster and stands as one of the finest certified by PCGS, with only three graded higher. Ex: King's Norton Mint Collection." Libya obtained her independence from Italy in 1951 and was ruled by king Idris until he was overthrown in 1969. The coinage of this period is very scanty. This type was accompanied by five, ten, twenty, fifty and hundred milliemes, all one year types. Tho not often seen, none are valuable.
