Stack's Bowers October 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72105

This specimen was lot 72105 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "LIBYA. 5 Milliemes, 1965. PCGS SPECIMEN-66 Gold Shield. An exceptional scalloped-shaped issue, offering intense luster and radiance, as well as great yellow-bronze color throughout. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." Libya obtained her independence from Italy in 1951 and was ruled by king Idris until he was overthrown in 1969. The coinage of this period is very scanty. This type was accompanied by one, ten, twenty, fifty and hundred milliemes, all one year types. Tho not often seen, none are valuable.
