This specimen was lot 33416 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic Specimen 50 Milliemes 1965 SP65 PCGS. A scalloped Specimen striking with a sharp edge that provides a satisfying visual frame for the bold rendered devices and reflective surfaces." Libya, long a part of the Ottoman Empire, was conquered by Italy in 1912 and held by them until Word War Two, when it was occupied first by the Nazis and then by the British and the Americans. Libya was granted independence as a constitutional monarchy by the United Nations in 1950. The monarchy was overthrown in 1969. This fifty milliemes was accompanied by KM 8 (10 milliemes), 9 (20 milliemes) and 11 (100 milliemes). Tho not often seen, none are valuable.
