This specimen was lot 910 in Sincona sale 11 (Zurich, May 2013), where it sold for 1,900 CHF (about US$2,353 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Leiningen-Westerburg, Grafschaft Ludwig, 1597-1622. Goldgulden 1617, Grünstadt. Selten. Sehr schön. (Germany, county of Leiningen-Westerburg, Louis I (1597-1622), gold gulden of 1617, Grunstadt mint. Rare, very fine.)"

The landgraviate of Leiningen, already a petty state, was subdivided several times in the sixteenth century. The branch of Leiningen-Leiningen or Leiningen-Westerburg was the only one to issue gold with this ducat of 1612-20.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW; this specimen is 3.21 g.
