Steve Album sale 54, lot 3646

This specimen was lot 3646 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "LAOS: People’s Democratic Republic, 10 kip, 1988, Five-masted Clipper Ship, struck at the Havana Mint, Cuba, NGC graded MS68. The design was probably inspired by the Royal Clipper, a modern cruising ship, or her predecessor the Preussen (1902-1910). This is the highest graded example 'top pop' at either PCGS or NGC." The ship Preussen was wrecked in 1910. As a square-rigger, she would not have looked at all like the sketch on the coin. This design was also used on a copper ten kip (KM 66), silver fifty kip (KM 29) and gold 100 kip (KM 42).

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.3 g, copper-nickel, 24.1 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-101.
