Landau 1713 1/2 florin 2 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 1234 in Jean Elsen sale 162 (Brussels, June 2025), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,109 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, LANDAU, assiégée par l'armée française (25 juin - 20 août 1713), AR 1/2 florin 2 kreuzer, 1713. Klippe uniface. D/ Monogramme CA couronné, entouré par quatre écus. Au-dessus, PRO/ CAES: & IMP:. En dessous, BEL: LANDAU/ 1/2 FL: 2 x. Rare. Belle patine. Provient de CNG, Lancaster, vente 49, 15 juin 1999, 1998. (Germany, city of Landau, besieged by the French army June 25-August 20, 1713, silver half florin two kreuzer of 1713, uniface klippe. Obverse: crowned "CA" monogram, four shields around, legend above and below with date and value. Rare, nice patina, extremely Fine.)"
Altho the town of Landau is traditionally considered part of the Palatinate, and is today in Germany, from 1680 to 1815 it was garrisoned by the French. This issue was accompanied by a one florin four kreuzer (KM 12) and a two florin eight kreuzer (KM 13), all scarce.
