This specimen was lot 1013 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1495. The catalog description[1] noted, "1843 RB 2 escudos. Rioja mint. AU-58 (NGC). Radiant sun over mountain dividing denomination, legends around/arms, legends and date around. Medium gold with deeper highlights, slightly off center on obverse. Frosty lustre, thin scratch at left side of obverse. A scarce issue. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942."
This type struck in Argentina 1843 only, along with some rare silver two reales (KM 16).
Specification: 6.75 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 6.64 grams, 24.10 mm diameter.
