Kiangsu-Kiangsoo Province is located on the east coast of China. Modern mint equipment was installed in the Soochow mint in 1898, and another mint was opened in 1904. Both mints ceased production in 1906. The first specimen shown was lot 60349 in Ponterio sale 162 (Hong Kong, August 2011), where it sold for $6,572. The catalog description[1] noted, "Kiangsu. 5 Cash Pattern, ND (ca. 1906). 江蘇省造光緒元寶每元當錢五文。RARE. "EIVE Cash". 稀少。飛龍。英文"EIVE Cash"。NGC AU-58. Ex: The Frank Robinson Collection." The second specimen was lot 53242 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description[2] noted, "CHINA. Kiangsu. Brass 5 Cash Pattern, ND (1906). NGC AU-53. "EIVF" error variety. Only lightly handled, this specimen still retains a good deal of shimmering brilliance and stands as a RARE type."
