Stack's Bowers April 2021 Hong Kong sale, lot 52563
SB421-52563r.jpg

This specimen was lot 52563 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Consolidated Soviet Republic (Kiangsi). Cent, ND (ca. 1932). PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield. Verging upon Mint State status, this red-brown specimen offers a solid strike and remains a popular type through its "hammer and sickle" iconography." This copper type was restruck in the 1960's. The restrikes are brilliant red uncirculated and fully struck while the originals are heavily worn and crudely made. Except for the fact that they eventually won out and conquered all of China, the communists in the early thirties were merely one of many bandit gangs vying for power.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: CL-SWA.01; KM-Y506.
