Hunan Soviet (1931) 10 cash
This specimen was lot 52559 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA. Hunan Soviet. 10 Cash, ND (1931). NGC FINE-15; Countermark: XF Strong. A bold and clear hammer and sickle counterstamp within a five-pointed star (graded EF), applied to the character side of a provincial 10 Cash from an indeterminate mint. The host is quite worn but exhibits no more than the expected circulation marks." This scarce and enigmatic issue is not listed in the SCWC. Except for the fact that they eventually won out and conquered all of China, the communists in the early thirties were merely one of many bandit gangs vying for power.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: host coin: 7.13 g, copper.
Catalog reference: KM unlisted.
