Kenya 1989 5 cents
This specimen was lot 73547 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $90. The catalog description[1] noted, "KENYA. 5 Cents, 1989. PCGS SPECIMEN-67 Gold Shield. Just three examples have been seen finer at PCGS than this enticing specimen, exuding a near reverse proof nature on account of extensive die polishing. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." Jomo Kenyatta, member of the Kikuyu tribe, was the first president of Kenya (1964-1978) and appears on all coins of that period. Perennial president Daniel Arap Moi (ruled 1978-2002), appears on coins starting in 1978. The five cents shown was issued 1978-81, 1984-91.
