Jever c1649 28 stuber rev SAlbum 14-1564.jpg

This specimen was lot 1564 in Stephen Album sale 14 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2012), where it sold for $140. The catalog description[1] noted, "JEVER: Anthony Günther, Count of Oldenburg, 1603-1667, AR 28 stuber, ND (1649-51), KM-40 var., Dav-714 var. (Oldenburg), legend slightly different than in Davenport or Krause, nicely struck for these, choice Very Fine." This coin is closer to a gulden than a thaler and the Davenport number given in the description does not fit the regular sequence in his catalogs. A gulden was about two-thirds of a thaler. The county of Jever passed thru many hands but in the late seventeenth century was a fief of the count of Oldenburg.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM 40.
