This five sen was struck in Japan during the reign of the Taisho emperor, Yoshihito (1912-26). The type was struck 1917-20; this date (year 9) marks a reduction in size from 4.28 g to 2.63 g (Y44). The last five sen coin was issued in 1945, as B-29's rained death on Japanese cities.

Specification: 4.28 g, copper-nickel, 20.6 mm.
