This specimen was struck for Japan by the Tokyo mint, which issued this type 1920-23. The coin was converted from silver to copper-nickel in 1887. It was reduced from 4.67 g to 4.28 g in 1917 (Y-43) and then to 2.63 g in 1920 and then made in pure nickel after 1933. The denomination was terminated after 1946, the victim of inflation and the disaster of World War Two.
