This specimen was lot 2107 in Stephen Album sale 43 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2022), where it sold for $570. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN: Meiji, 1868-1912, AR 50 sen, year 35 (1902), a superb lustrous example! PCGS graded MS64, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This type was struck 1873-77, 1880, 1885, 1897-1905. This is a slightly better date. In 1906 the weight was reduced to 10.10 g, then reduced to 4.95 g in 1922.
Recorded mintage: 1,023,280.
Specification: 13.48 g, 0.800 fine silver, 30.5 mm diameter.
