This specimen was lot 72064 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 5 Yen, Year 30 (1897). Osaka Mint. NGC MS-65. A sharply struck and very attractive example displaying smooth satiny surfaces with nice cartwheel luster displaying lovely mottled orange patina. From the BKingdom Collection." This type was struck 1897-98, 1903, 1911-12. It superseded the prior five yen (Fr-47) which was twice the weight. Both types were struck in 1897.

Recorded mintage: 111,776 plus 107,852 of the larger Fr-47 (8.33 g).

Specification: 4.17 g, 0.900 fine gold.
