from the Stack's Bowers 2018 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71154

This specimen was lot 71154 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 20 Sen, Year 30 (1897). PCGS MS-67 Secure Holder. Flashy red and green toning, a mate to the M18 10 Sen we are offering here. A lovely little GEM which clearly sat for a prolonged period of time undisturbed. Ex: Superior Stamp & Coin December 6-7, 1996, lot 978." This type was struck 1873-1905 and most dates are common. The superseding type (KM Y30), issued 1907-11, was 4.05 g, 0.800 fine silver and was the last twenty sen.

Recorded mintage: 7,516,448, a common date.

Specification: 5.39 g, 0.800 fine silver, 23.5 mm diameter.
