This specimen was lot 72070 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAPAN. 1/2 Sen, Year 18 (1885). Osaka Mint. NGC MS-65 Red Brown. An atractve Gem survivor displaying plenty of orginal mint red with hints of richer coloration throughout while the bold devices are crisp and clear." This type, roughly equal to a half cent, was struck 1877-88 and is the last of the denomination.
