Jamaica 1984 5 cents
This specimen was lot 72058 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAMAICA. 5 Cents, 1984. PCGS SPECIMEN-67 Gold Shield. Sharply struck with blazing mint luster in the fields. Just one has been graded finer in the PCGS census. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." The second specimen was lot 73531 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[2] noted, "JAMAICA. 5 Cents, 1984. PCGS SPECIMEN-68 Gold Shield. This resounding Gem--verging upon perfection and with great charm--presents a delightful matte nature on account of die polishing and is tied with just four others for the top spot in the PCGS census. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." This type was struck by the Royal Mint for Jamaica in 1969-72, 1975-89. The Franklin mint also produced this denomination with narrow letters (KM 53) in 1971-84.
