Jamaica 1980 5 cents

from the Stack's Bowers June 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73530

This specimen was lot 73530 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $80. The catalog description^[1] noted, "JAMAICA. 5 Cents, 1980. PCGS SPECIMEN-66 Gold Shield. Just one example has been graded finer than this Gem, offering exceptionally mirrored fields and a crocodile on the reverse. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." This type was struck by the Royal Mint for Jamaica in 1969-72, 1975-89. The Franklin mint also produced this denomination with narrow letters (KM 53) in 1971-84.
