Jamaica 1970 cent
The first specimen was lot 72059 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAMAICA. Cent, 1970. London Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-67 Red Gold Shield. The absolute finest of the type that one can hope to encounter, this tremendous mint red Gem offers intense luster and seemingly flawless surfaces. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." The second specimen was lot 73532 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $95. The catalog description[2] noted, "JAMAICA. Cent, 1970. Franklin Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-64 Red Gold Shield. Large Date variety. Exceedingly brilliant and glossy, this lustrous near-Gem radiates with great intensity. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." This type was struck 1969-70 by the Royal Mint. The Franklin Mint made and marketed the proofs.
