Kunker sale 293, lot 1330
Silesia in 1648. Jagerndorf is between Neisse and Troppau

This specimen was lot 1330 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,561 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHLESIEN, JÄGERNDORF, HERZOGTUM, Georg Friedrich, 1543-1603. 1/2 Reichstaler 1599, Jägerndorf. Slg. Grüber (Auktion Künker 267) 3405. Von großer Seltenheit. Sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Jagerndorf, George Frederick, 1543-1603, half thaler of 1599. Very rare, very fine.)"

Silesia is considered a German State even tho the province was then under Austrian rule and is now in Poland. Jagerndorf, in upper Silesia, was part of Silesia that Austria retained after Frederick the Great conquered the major portion for Prussia in 1741-45. For many generations it was held by the princes of Liechtenstein. It is now part of the Czech Republic. The modern, Czech, name for the town is Krnov. This type may be the same as KM 6 listed for 1602; as there is no photo in the SCWC we cannot be sure.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: v. Schr. 1203.
