Sincona sale 50, lot 1116

This specimen was lot 1116 in Sincona sale 50 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 13,000 CHF (about US$15,681 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Königreich. Vittorio Emanuele III. 1900-1946. 100 Lire 1936 Anno XIV, Rom. Stempel von G. Romagnoli. VITTORIO · EMANVELE · III · RE · E · IMP · Kopf nach rechts, darunter die Signatur des Medailleurs. Rv. ITA - L - IA Liktor schreitet links mit Fasces und Victoria, links über der Bodenlinie - 1936, rechts XIV / R. Im Abschnitt LIRE (gekröntes Wappen) 100. Von grösster Seltenheit. Nur 816 Exemplare geprägt. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. FDC. (kingdom of Italy, Victor Emanuel III, 1900-46, hundred lire of 1936, year XIV, Rome mint, dies by G. Romagnoli. Obverse: head right; reverse: a lictor strides left, holding a fasces and a victory, date and value below. Of the highest rarity. Only 816 pieces struck, Magnificent condition, Uncirculated.)"

A one year type struck as Mussolini was beginning the military adventures which lead to Italy's plunge into World War Two.
