This specimen was lot 3609 in Goldberg sale 90 (Los Angeles, January 2016), where it sold for $616.87. The catalog description[1] noted, "Israel. 10 New Sheqalim, 1998. For the 50th Anniversary of Independence. Choice Brilliant Proof." This commemorative is a product of the Utrecht mint and is struck in 0.999 fine gold rather than the usual 0.900 fine. It is accompanied by a gold twenty new sheqalim (KM 313). Similar ten sheqalim were struck 1986-95. Massive influx of aid from the United States fueled inflation and coinage reforms in 1960, 1980 and 1985.

Recorded mintage: 2,406 proofs.

Specification: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.500 ounce AGW, 30 mm diameter.
