Ireland 1931 florin
This specimen was lot 31039 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $851.88. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 2 Shillings (Florin) 1931 MS65 NGC. A superb gem with dark patina surrounding the coin's devices and splendid original mint luster. A very select example perfect for the collectors of Irish Republic coinage." This type is listed for 1928-37, after which the country name was changed to simply "Eire." This date is scarce but not rare like the 1934. Irish coinage was designed to circulate alongside British coinage which was 0.500 fine silver in the thirties.
Recorded mintage: 200,000 plus a few proofs.
