Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice Online Auction, lot 76262
SB925-76262r.jpg

This specimen was lot 76262 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRELAND. Penny, 1601. Elizabeth I. PCGS EF-45. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck 1601-02 with trefoil, star and martlet mintmarks. Switching the penny from silver to copper made sense except, of course, the coin was only 1.9 g instead of the 9.6 g used for 19th century British pennies.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.9 g, copper, 20 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: S-6510; KM-6.1.
