This specimen was lot 2314 in Stephen Album sale 37 (Santa Rosa, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $142.80. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAQ: Mahmud II, 1808-1839, BI 5 kurush, Baghdad, AH1223 year 26, scarcer of the two dates for this type, EF." This type was struck in Baghdad by the Ottomans in years 26-27. Sulieman the Magnificent conquered Iraq in the sixteenth century and the Turks held it until the end of World War One.
