Stack's Bowers May 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 33372

This specimen was lot 33372 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. 1/4 Azadi, SH 1358 (1979). Tehran Mint. NGC MS-67. A Superb-Gem example with sharp details and much eye appeal." The year after the shah was ousted, the ayatollahs authorized the minting of gold quarter, half, one, 2½ and five azadis, based on the old pahlavis.
