This specimen was lot 403 in Goldberg sale 136 (Los Angeles, September 2023), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "Iran. 5000 Dinars (½ Toman), AH1301 (1883). Nasir al-Din Shah, 1848-1896. Uniformed bust slightly left. PCGS graded MS-61." This type was struck AH 1297-1307 and 1313 during the reign of Nasir al-Din Shah, who was assassinated while preparing to celebrate the 50th year of his rule. One thousand dinars made a kran and ten kran made a toman. The largest silver coin was the five krans but was not struck in AH 1301.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
Specification: 1.43 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.041 troy oz AGW, 17 mm diameter.
